The Emergency Response Division protects lives from the hazards of fire, explosions and related perils through quick response and suppression. In addition to traditional fire services, firefighter/paramedics provide emergency medical care to victims of fires, accidents and sudden illnesses. Their ability to respond within four minutes helps save hundreds of lives each year and limits disabling injuries for the victims. The firefighter/paramedic uses a sophisticated telemetry system that produces both voice and EKG transmission via radio. Personnel in this division staff fire stations strategically located throughout Miami's thirty-four square miles.
