Latino Art Beat, a national not for profit arts organization, received over 1,000 entries in its 14th consecutive art competition, themed “What Hispanic Heritage & Culture Means to Me?” This year Audrey Michelle Gair, a June 2011 graduate of the New World School of the Arts high school, Miami was selected as the 2011 National Latino Art Beat competition winner. Gairs’ artwork titled “Mi Cultura”, is an acrylic on canvas self portrait in the style of Mexican artist, Freda Kahlo de Rivera (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954)

Commission Vice-Charimant Frank Carollo joins City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen at a press conference, from Miami City Hall, to urge the Census Bureau for a recount of Miami’s population. The numbers in the 2010 Census did not report Miami’s full growth since 2009, claiming that a little less than 400,000 people live in the City, which is 30,000 less than official estimates in 2008 and 2009.
