Series #2 at Charles Hadley Park in Liberty City

(Miami, FL June 2, 2017) - Spearheaded by Commissioner Francis Suarez and sponsored by AT&T, MAGIC FitZone's first series in Overtown's Reeves Park was a huge success, with gunfire-related incidents dropping 50% over the course of the program as compared to the same time frame the previous year. Now in its 2nd series, MAGIC FitZone has moved to Liberty City's Charles Hadley Park, bringing the initiative's philosophy of health and safety to a new neighborhood in Miami's urban core.

MAGIC FitZone is an initiative to promote fitness and prevent gun violence in Miami's inner-city. A successful application of innovative technology, it is a series of community fitness events that are strategically placed at neighborhood parks to dissuade nearby violent crime. This is made possible by the City of Miami's ShotSpotter system, which uses sensors placed throughout the City to identify and report gun shots. Once "hotspots" of gun violence are identified, MAGIC FitZone brings neighborhood residents together with Police, Fire and other City departments for an evening of fun fitness activities, including basketball, flag football, line dancing, jogging, boot camps, and more.
