Public Hearing for Commissioner Suarez' Envelopes of Safety Grant

(Miami, FL May 10, 2017) - City of Miami Public Hearing to consider a Resolution sponsored by Commissioner Francis Suarez to allocate $160,000 from Commissioner Suarez' Anti-Poverty Initiative Fund to the Envelopes of Safety Program (Listed on the Commission agenda as items PH.1 and PH.2) will be considered at the Miami City Commission Meeting on Thursday,
May 11, 2017.

Created in conjunction with the School Board and County Commissioner Xavier Suarez after a bullet penetrated a classroom at Frances Tucker Elementary in Coconut Grove in 2016, Envelopes of Safety presents an effort by various governmental bodies to bring after-school activities, such as music, visual arts, and martial arts, to public school children in order to keep them safety at school and engaged in positive activities once the school day is over. If approved by the Commission at Thursday's Commission meeting, this grant would be used to provide much needed after-school programming, run by The Motivational Edge and Elliott's Karate-Do, to sixteen schools across the City.
