PAMM Postcards for Haiti

(Miami, FL October 7, 2016) -

City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and Commissioner Ken Russell are partnering with the Pérez Art Museum Miami to provide aid and support to Haiti. On Saturday, PAMM will accept donations of dry food to send to communities devastated by Hurricane Matthew. Additionally, the museum will provide postcards for all its visitors, so that they can send well wishes and encouraging messages to affected families alongside the aid packages. To further encourage this effort, the museum will not charge for admission Saturday.

Hurricane Matthew battered the island of Haiti leaving homes destroyed and life-threatening conditions in its wake. Hundreds have died and the death toll continues to climb. Hundreds of thousands face the potential of a humanitarian crisis.

Mayor  Regalado and  City of Miami Commissioners have been working with Notre Dame D'Haiti Catholic Church and the Archdiocese of Miami, among others, to collect certain items for relief efforts for Haiti. The donations needed include: dry food (rice and beans), baby food and powdered formula, first aid supplies and diapers.

“In times like this, South Florida needs to show its generosity to those affected by this devastating hurricane,” said Mayor Regalado.

“This is a very difficult time for Haiti. Our entire community needs to show support and love during this crisis,” said Commissioner Russell. “We were very fortunate by not being hit by Matthew. Let’s do what we can to collect and provide needed items as well as emotional support to all Haitians.”

PAMM teaching artists will provide postcards for visitors so they can write inspirational messages to be included in care packages being sent to Haiti.

“Our thoughts are with the people in Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and The Bahamas who were hit hard by Hurricane Matthew as well as the millions still in its path” stated PAMM Museum Director Franklin Sirmans. “PAMM Postcards invites the public to send their artistic messages of support to those in need, to be included with emergency supplies.”
