New Playground Opens at
Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Park

(Miami, FL September 14, 2016) - On Friday, September 16th, at 4:00 p.m. the City of Miami will open a new playground at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Park, located at 2901 S.W. 22nd Avenue.

City officials invite the public to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and enjoy the new playground area. Through the improvements, children ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, will have play areas that intrigue their imaginations and provide fun physical challenges to keep them active.

"Even as the City of Miami is investing in big parks city wide, it is equally important that we provide access to the small neighborhood parks where families can spend time within walking distance from their homes," said Commissioner Ken Russell. "It feels great to revitalize green public spaces where neighbors can gather and kids can play."
The new playground is from Landscape Structures, and the improvements include a handicap accessible swing area, and a rubberized mulch surface with picnic tables. Sidewalks were reconstructed to meet ADA standards and additional aesthetics improvements included new sod and trash receptacles. Total construction costs totaled $216,558 for design and construction.
